The Samburu National Reserve falls within a semi-arid region, but the big Ewaso Nyiro River attracts lots of wildlife including vast herds of elephants. Large predators like the lion, leopard, cheetah and other classical savanna animals can be found in this area. The reserve is also home to Kamunyak “The miracle lioness” that adopted the baby oryx.
The Reserve is home to the Samburu Tribespeople who are semi-nomadic pastoralists. One of the highlight to Elephant Bedroom Camp is to take a trip to local Samburu markets where guests get to experience their colorful customs. Elephant Bedroom Camp can arrange unique visits to blessing rituals and traditional weddings, but this takes place by appointment and by invitation only.
Guests are also encouraged to combine a Kenyan safari with a Kenyan beach holiday. The Kenyan beaches have warm Indian Ocean waters and are still mostly untouched by the ravages of large tourist crowds.
