The reserve is unfenced, and as a result, the game often walks through the camp to reach the nearby Marico River. This makes for some fantastic game viewing from either the main lodge area or the guest suites.

Staying at Makanyane Safari Lodge:

Makanyane Safari Lodge consists of the main lodge building as well as eight very private guest suites.

The main lodge building has an indoor dining area and bar that leads onto a wooden pool deck with an infinity pool overlooking the surrounding bush. The lodge has large open-plan spaces and built using thatch, stone, and glass.

Makanyane Safari Lodge also has a beautiful spa as well as a fully equipped gym. 

Makanyane Safari Lodge has eight very private and secluded guests suites. The guest suites are spacious and open-plan with a bedroom and lounge area. There is also a large bathroom with both an indoor and an outdoor shower. Each suite also has a private viewing deck with great views of the surrounding bush.

The most striking feature of the suites is the fact that the walls are nearly entirely made out of glass.  Guest staying at Makanyane Safari Lodge feel that nature is right on their doorstep. The views when lying in bed and looking out are just magnificent.

The Madikwe Game Reserve is an excellent area for a malaria-free safari. At Makanyane Safari Lodge guests typically go on morning and evening game drives together with their game ranger. The lodge is located in a Big Five reserve, so the chance of encountering these sometimes elusive animals are excellent.

Makanyane Safari Lodge has several hides in the bush where guests can spend time relaxing and viewing game while taking in the tranquillity of the bush.

For more adventurous guests there is an opportunity to sleep out in the bush at the lodge sleep out hide. This hide is very romantic and private, and it is, in fact, a tree house built overlooking a waterhole. Guests have a spotlight so that they can view the game throughout the night and sleep under the African sky.
