Plains Camp might be situated in the heart of National Park, but the essence is surprisingly East African, with wide rolling savanna grasslands that are typical to Kenya. The exclusive views over the plains set Plains Camp aside from the rest of the Kruger Park.
The camp was built in pioneer style of the 19th century to capture the essence of an era lost to us. It overlooks the Timbitene plain with no restricting fences, so the best part is, you can view the game in abundance, right from the comforts of the plunge pool with a cocktail in hand. Here you can expect excellent service, warm hospitality, and comfortable lodgings. No concrete was used at all in the structures. Everything is made out of canvas and wood, with the focus on low energy consumption.
Walking safaris take place within a private concession within the park. Walking amongst the animals is not as terrifying as it may initially sound. But their knowledge and skills of the terrain and animals will put you more at ease, even when an elephant bull crosses your path.
A typical camp day starts with a mug of coffee and homemade rusks, South African style. You will soon set out for a morning walk, trekking after beasts of all kinds. Fear not, the length of the walk will depend on your fitness level. A leisurely brunch will be set up on your return in the shade of acacia trees. Sunset cocktails and starlight dinners bring your day to a perfect close.
Great care is given to the smaller details, from antique treasures and book collections to the crispy linen and comfy pillows. There are four explorer-style tents in total, overlooking the waterhole and Timbitene plains. All things considered, the camp offers excellent value for money as opposed to many more competing camps. Your stay will be all inclusive of meals and safari activities.
Rhino Walking Safari
The concession spans an impressive 12 000 hectares of private wilderness with tailor-made walking trails. In keeping with the conservation ethics of the park, please tread lightly. There are few true wilderness areas left, so the camp made it their personal mission to preserve this stretch of land.
Guided Walking Safaris From Camp to Camp
The experienced guides will help you identify trees, animals, birds, insects, and medicinal plants used in folklore. You will also learn invaluable survival skills along the way.
