A proud survivor of the mother city’s industrial history, The Silo evolved from the loving conversion of the elevator tower of a grain storage silo – once the tallest structure in sub-Saharan Africa at 57m high. It is located in the heart of Cape Town in the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront above Zeitz MOCAA – the largest collection of African contemporary art on the continent – and has views to the iconic Table Mountain, Atlantic Ocean, and Robben Island.
Accommodation
The Silo’s 28 rooms are divided into six different categories, with each individually decorated and designed to make full effect of the modern industrial architecture of the building.
Public Areas
The Silo’s dedication to style continues into the public areas with the Willaston Bar and Granary Café making full use of their pillowed 5.5m-high windows. While both spaces have a welcoming atmosphere, the café offers a more formal dining experience. The Silo’s Rooftop is another space for a light lunch or sundowner cocktail, as well as a swim, while The Silo also contains a spa with gym, sauna and dedicated manicure space.
Cape Town Experience
A vibrant and colorful city which combines natural splendor with an intriguing cultural identity, South Africa’s mother city has an eclectic mix of Cape Malay, Dutch, and English architecture standing proudly beside modern skyscrapers. Dominated by Table Mountain, one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World to one side and Table Bay to the other, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront has a range of boutique stores and restaurants, and is the gateway to Robben Island, made famous by the imprisonment of Nelson Mandela.
Activities
Situated above the Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA), The Silo offers expert guided tours of this important addition to the international contemporary art scene. In the basement, there is also the hotel’s own private gallery space, The Vault, showcasing a rotating series of works in conjunction with local galleries.
